Johannesburg – SuperSport United skipper Thabo September says his side will have it all to play for when they take on Bloemfontein Celtic in a Premiership clash on Tuesday.
Matsatsantsa are languishing in the bottom half of the league table with a single win from their 12 fixtures so far this season, and September said a midweek victory would go a long way in assisting the former champions to climb back up the table.
“This week we are trying all that we can to get the team in a relaxed mind,” September told the United website.
“Every game we play now is crucial, especially at home. We really need to start collecting maximum points.
“We are facing a Celtic side that is playing well and full of confidence. The plan is to win, that's it.”
United head into the clash on the back of a 2-2 draw with Golden Arrows in their last Premiership encounter, picking up their 10th draw of the league campaign.
“We registered another draw against Golden Arrows, and this is not that good because we were hosting and wanted all three points so badly,” September said.
“Unfortunately things did not go our way after dropping the two points.
“In my view, we were not at our best and we struggled to take charge. We made bad mistakes at the back but showed courage to come back twice from behind.”
The skipper added that a victory over Celtic – who claimed the Telkom Knockout trophy on Saturday – would help the club achieve a top-eight finish ahead of the extended league break for the holiday period and the Africa Cup of Nations.
“We want to move into the top-eight bracket and a victory on Tuesday will be a great step for us,” he said.
“We have to focus on the Celtic match first and the rest will follow.
“We are hoping to have Kermit Erasmus, Davies Nkausu and Moffat Mdluli back in the team soon, but Innocent Mdledle is still recuperating.”
In Tuesday's other fixtures, table-topping Kaizer Chiefs host Ajax Cape Town in Polokwane, Arrows welcome Moroka Swallows in Umlazi, and Maritzburg United are at home to Platinum Stars at Harry Gwala Stadium.
On Wednesday, Black Leopards take on Amazulu in Polokwane, Free State Stars entertain Mamelodi Sundowns in Phuthaditjhaba, Wits play the University of Pretoria in Johannesburg, and Chippa United take on defending champions Orlando Pirates at Cape Town Stadium. – Sapa
