Extrastrong Team of the week

It could so easily have been a three-club team this week. But there was just no ignoring Tendai Ndoro’s hat-trick in Orlando Pirates’ Absa Premiership victory over Golden Arrows.

Besides him, the rest of our players come from Bidvest Wits, Cape Town City and Chippa United - all three of which are through to the MTN8 semi-finals having also won their league matches.

There was general consensus among the group’s soccer writers, although there was a fierce debate as to whether to include Wits’ Xola Mlambo.

In the end his sending off ruled him out. “We want disciplined players in our team,” charged one reporter. Khama Billiat had a mention for his efforts in the Brazilians’ Tshwane derby victory over SuperSport United, but it wasn’t enough to sneak him in. Ditto for Elias Pelembe.

The choice of coach was not as cut and dried as it would appear, for there were those who made a strong appeal for Dan Malesela given the attractive, winning football his Chilli Boys dished out. But in the end Wits’ victories against the Soweto duo tilted the scales in Gavin Hunt’s favour.

Do you agree with our choices? Would your team be any different? Please let us know via email to [email protected]
