Johannesburg – The father of Orlando Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni has been shot, allegedly by one of his children, the soccer club's administrator said on Friday.

“It was not Siyabonga, it was one of his siblings,” Floyd Mbele said.

Which sibling it was, and the motive for the shooting, were still unclear. It was also not known whether the father was killed or wounded. Mbele would not give further details.

Siyanbonga, 31, has two brothers who play for clubs in the Premier Soccer League. Thamsanqa Sangweni, 24, plays for Mamelodi Sundowns, and Mandla Sangweni, 26, is goalkeeper for AmaZulu. – Sapa
