Johannesburg –Following a rare Absa Premiership victory over Free State Stars earlier this week, Mamelodi Sundowns boss Pitso Mosimane believes his side are under pressure from their supporters to build on the performance and deliver more positive results.

“At a team like Sundowns, there's always pressure and supporters want more,” Mosimane said.

“You win today, they want another win tomorrow.”

Not only are the Brazilians under pressure from their vocal – and often aggressive – supporters, but they also face another potential dent to their proud league history.

Languishing in 11th place with 32 points from 27 fixtures, Sundowns need to pick up five points from their remaining three games, in order for the current squad to avoid accumulating the least amount of points for the Pretoria outfit in 17 years in the Premier Soccer League era.

The only crop of players to have done worse than the current squad were the class of 2003/04, who hold the record as the poorest ever to represent Sundowns in the top-flight league, following their dismal 36 points for the season.

Mosimane was nonetheless adamant that he would continue to build for the future by experimenting with combinations and team line-ups, something he has insisted on since taking over from embattled Dutchman Johan Neeskens in December last year.

“I'm not rotating, I'm trying to give everybody a chance,” Mosimane said.

“As much as I'm fighting for top eight, I've always been saying that I try to give everybody a chance.

“Sometimes it's at the expense of the club because you don't have stability and you look like you don't know what you're doing.

“We're doing well, we're not talking relegation, we're talking top eight, but it's another level at Sundowns… people want more.” – Sapa
