Siboniso Gaxa signed a new deal on Monday with Absa Premiership table toppers Bidvest Wits until the end of the season, and his agent says his recent move has no bearing on his pending case with Kaizer Chiefs.

The defender was caught up in a contractual dispute storm with Amakhosi after the club had announced in October last year that he’d agreed to a two-year contract only to go back on their word, leaving Gaxa clubless at the start of the 2016-17 season.

“We are waiting for the outcome from the Dispute Resolution Chamber hearing held on November 7 after both parties presented their case and we should know in the coming weeks what the verdict is,” said Glyn Binkin, who is Gaxa’s representative.

Chiefs insist the contract the player claims to have signed is not legitimate even though they made what was then regarded as an official statement on Twitter that Gaxa, who won the Premier League title twice while at Amakhosi, would stay on. Gaxa was part of a list of at least 20 players who were considered surplus to requirements by Chiefs at the end of a disappointing previous campaign in which the club surrendered the championship to Sundowns by finishing in fifth place. Gaxa also appeared to have a fall-out with coach Steve Komphela, who sidelined him halfway through the season and handed him only two league appearances between February and May.

“He’s hoping to put this all behind him now and concentrate on helping Wits with their targets this season. He has joined until the end of the season and has an option to renew the contract,” Binkin said.
