Cape Town - Robyn Johannes has been an integral part in Cape Town City's journey to the Telkom Knockout final, playing in two of the side's three matches.

Ahead of Saturday's final against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, the centreback gave us an insider's perspective on the club's journey to its first ever cup final.

Last 16: CT City 2 - Bloemfontein Celtic 0

“This was my first start back after a long injury. It was a tough game, Celtic are a good side and, with the score goalless after 90 minutes, it went into extra-time.

“I remember they had a man sent off in the second half of extra-time (Tshepo Rikhotso in the 112th minute) and we scored twice in the last few minutes. Overall, though, I thought we controlled the game and were deserved winners in the end."

Quarter-final: Baroka FC 3 - CT City 4

“What a game this was. I thought we played some great football in the opening 30 minutes and should have sealed the game in that time. Even the coach came in at halftime and said we were brilliant. But we conceded some silly goals and that allowed Baroka back in the game. They got a goal just before halftime and that gave them confidence.

“We should have killed off the game in the first half by burying our chances. But, again, on the balance of play, I thought we fully deserved the victory and a place in the semi-final.”

Semi-final: CT City 4 - Free State Stars 1

“I was suspended for this game and watched from the stands. I thought, in the first half, we played some of our best football all season. The attacking play was superb. We had so many chances early on.

“This game showed that, when we play good football, it’s very difficult to beat us. Lebogang Manyama and Aubrey Ngoma were brilliant and showed that they have been our two best players so far this season. Week in and week out, they produce the quality, top-class performances.”
