Ajax Cape Town have snapped up Bradley Grobler to bolster their strike force for next season.

Urban Warriors boss George Comitis confirmed on Tuesday that the Bafana Bafana striker has signed a four-year deal with the club after joining from Turkish outfit Goztepe for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old Grobler, the son of former Rangers and Moroka Swallows striker Les, shined for Platinum Stars before moving to Turkey on becoming Goztepe’s most-expensive signing ever.

His good form in 2011 resulted in a Bafana call-up for the friendly matches against the Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe. Grobler didn’t get a look-in against the Elephants, but he then scored on his debut against Zimbabwe.

“We are happy to have acquired the services of Bradley, as he is a wonderful player and will certainly add a lot of value to our striking department,” Comitis told the Cape Times on Tuesday.

Grobler, who signed the deal at Ikamva on Tuesday, said he was pleased to join the club.

“I have always admired how Ajax Cape Town played their football. Their professionalism and European training methods attracted me to the club. I am looking forward to a long and successful time at Ikamva,” he said.

Grobler’s signing means that former Ajax striker Mabhuti Khenyeza is unlikely to return to Cape Town for a second stint. The temperamental front man was tipped to leave SuperSport United for Ajax, while he has apparently missed a few pre-season training sessions at the club.

Meanwhile, Ajax midfielder George Maluleka is likely to join SuperSport after the former league champions exercised the option to make use of the buy-out clause in his contract.

“There was nothing we could do to keep George. The only thing we can do now is wish the boy all the best for the future,” Comitis said. – Cape Times
