Absa Premiership newcomers Highlands Park have appointed multple championship winner Gordon Igesund as their coach.

"Be informed that Highlands Park have appointed Gordon Igesund as their Head Coach with immediate effect. Reasons and all other related issues will be released later," the club said through a statement sent out by director Sinki Mnisi.

Igesund will be at the PSL later on today for a Telkom Knokcout press conference looking ahead to the club's first round clash with Chippa United at Makhulong Stadium on Friday night.

Igesund replaces Allan Freese whose future is not clear yet. While he was a big hero for having led the Lions of the North to promotion via the play-offs from the Ntional First Division (NFD), Freese has struggled to get the club firing in the elite league.

Five matches into the campaign and the Tembisa outfit are in position 13 with just one win and draw while they lost their other three matches.

Igesund, a league winner with Manning Rangers, Orlando Pirates, Santos and Mamelodi Sundowns, had been linked with the Zambia national team post.

His last job in the PSL was with SuperSport United for whom he delivered the Nedbank Cup title.
