Johannesburg - Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono remains confident his side can avoid being relegated to the National First Division.

Cosmos (15th on the Premiership standings), currently involved in a three-way battle with Maritzburg United and AmaTuks to avoid finishing in the bottom two, were beaten 1-0 by Bidvest Wits on Wednesday night, despite being on the front foot for most of the game and peppering the Students’ goal with shots throughout the 90 minutes.

“It was one team on the park, it was Cosmos the whole 90 minutes. They had one chance, which was a set-piece, and we discussed it, we gave them a silly goal,” Sono said after the match at Olen Park.

“But I’m very proud of the team the way they played, if they carry on playing like this there’s no way they’ll go down, we just have to use our chances.

“Tactically everything went according to the plan except for the goal, but we’ll carry on fighting.”

Clever Boys coach Gavin Hunt also admitted that Ezenkosi had been the better team on the night:

“It’s easy to talk when you win but let’s be honest, I mean they murdered us, they were all over us, they were better than us, they didn’t deserve to lose,” said Hunt.

“It’s easy to say when you win, but they were the better side. The game was a fight and we couldn’t get two passes together.
