Johannesburg - National goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune experienced the wrath of Twitter when he compared himself to Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa on Wednesday.

The Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalie was responding to a tweet from @Tyga_scar: “Mexican keeper remynds me of @IIKHUNE_32_16 im tokn abt wow saves damn.”

Khune then tweeted: “Im very humbled to be compared to the likes of #ochoa.”

The tweet opened a can of mocking responses from South Africans, who mostly found his comparison amusing.

“We’re sitting here supporting OTHER teams because our own was too useless. Then he tweets THAT. Kahle kahle Khune doesn’t respect us,” said @Sisi_Sasha.

Her sentiments were echoed by @VeeKayChili: “Lmao. Khune must shurrup, him and his boys have no authority to tweet about the world cup.”

@SeanPages tweeted in support of Khune: “But Khune is good. Unfortunately in SA we have a bad habit of being quick to laugh at own while embracing outsiders.”

@Pimp_KB: Comparing Khune and #Ochoa is like comparing a Ferrari with a Yaris.

@TrevyTrev777: Wait!!! who compared Khune to Ochoa now? we definitely know that Mexico would’ve conceded 3 had Fatso Khune been keeper.

@MKatlegoTsele: Whatever Khune is on I also want it! It’s very strong!!! Lmao.

@sunair_dlamini: But comparing Khune to Ochoa is a bit of a stretch.

@JabbuM: Wait… Guys what’s KHUNE missing… Y’all go on like KHUNE wasn’t wanted by Man United and Chelsea at a point.

@RealestBongani: I REPEAT! The tweep who did the comparison HAS to apologise to #Khune! lol this is outta control! :-D

@DumaSisul_: Who the hell said these bafana bafana failures are allowed to tweet?
