Johannesburg – Lehlohonolo Majoro’s misery of training alone is likely to end this month after it was revealed on Thursday that he has signed for Orlando Pirates.

Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates would have to reach a deal for the player to be released this month, though. If not, Majoro will join the Buccaneers when his contract with Amakhosi expires in June.

That would mean Majoro will continue to train on his own after Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter made it clear the player will not play for the club again this season.

“Majoro will be joining Orlando Pirates football club, most likely in this transfer window, provided that Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates reach an agreement regarding his immediate release,” Majoro’s agent, Tim Sukazi, said.

“Otherwise, he is well set to join the Orlando club upon the expiration of his current contract.”

Questions about Majoro having signed a pre-contract with Pirates have therefore “become theoretical”, Sukazi said.

Current indications are that Majoro would “don the famous black-and-white jersey in no time from now”.

Majoro, who rejected a move to SuperSport United early this month apparently to hold out for a move to the Buccaneers, had also attracted interest from Ajax Cape Town.

“We are having discussions, but I cannot make any comment now,” said Ajax executive director Ari Efstathiou on Thursday. But by the end of the day, Majoro’s deal with Pirates had been confirmed.

Buccaneers coach Roger de Sa would certainly welcome another striker in his squad as they look to mount a challenge for the league title.

Majoro was key to Amakhosi’s league title success, netting nine times.

Chiefs are hoping Sundowns will release Katlego Mphela this month. As the 29-year-old striker signed a pre-contract with the Naturena club, they are unlikely to deny Majoro a chance to move to Pirates.
