Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic to coach Pirates?

Is Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic on his way back to Orlando Pirates?

Speculation is rife that the 47-year-old Serbian could quit his post as the Uganda national team coach and set sail for Johannesburg and the Buccaneers for a second spell.

Sredojevic had a short spell at Pirates in the 2006/07 season, and while he guided them to the Caf Champions League semi-finals, he was fired due to a poor record in the PSL.

It is understood that Swede Kjell Jonevret – who was appointed amid much fanfare in February – may be on his way out after Pirates finished outside the top eight last season as they sunk to 11th in the Premiership.

It would be a harsh move, though, as he didn’t hand-pick his squad and the club have been making some interesting signing in the off-season, including midfielders Musa Nyatama and Thamsanqa Sangweni, as well as top goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands.

Sredojevic, who was also in the mix for the Bafana post that was filled by Stuart Baxter, is believed to be keen to leave Uganda due to non-payment of his salary for a few months, but the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) moved swiftly and held a meeting with the coach on Monday.

In a statement on their website, Fufa said: “Fifa and the Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic have on Monday 24th July, 2017 held a meeting at Fufa House in Mengo in relation to the ongoing speculations about the status and future of the coach. The meeting between the two parties held constructive discussions in which:

* The past achievements, current and future of the Ugandan football were at the forefront during the discussions

* The parties have agreed that Fufa CEO Edgar Watson talks to the agent of the Uganda Cranes Coach Micho over the matters.

“Fufa and Micho will release a statement after the Fufa CEO has held discussions with the coach’s agent.”
