Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqith is hell bent on bringing the impressive run of Mamelodi Sundowns to a screeching halt.
The Brazilians have been in seventh heaven following positive results that have brought back smiles on faces of many associated with the Tshwane giants. So far under Pitso Mosimane, Sundowns have yet to taste defeat. However Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi intends to bring Sundowns back to earth when his men square up against Mosimane’s side at Loftus Versfeld tonight. “Me and my team have the capability to upset any opposition. We hope we can get three points against Sundowns tonight,” said Mngqithi.
Sundowns players will be high on confidence following the ruthless 3-0 trashing of Maritzburg United last Friday. Arrows lost 1-0 to AmaZulu in a tightly contested clash over the weekend. The sight of Sundowns creating chances aplenty and converting a few might have delighted Mosimane, whose side had struggled until their last match.
Mngqithi is aware that the KwaZulu-Natal side will have to be at their best in order to burst the Sundowns bubble.
“The fact that AmaZulu won did not do us any justice. My players know that they were not deserving a loss . We have to do well. Sundowns have been playing well. They have been creating more chances. It’s not surprising because they have a quality coach in Pitso,” said the former AmaZulu coach.
That Arrows, who are 11th with 19 points, meet Sundowns at a time where Mosimane’s players appear to be striking the right cords could prove a daunting task for the visitors. Despite the challenge and threat Sundowns are likely to pose, Mngqithi is confident that his side can do well against their fancied opponents, who are on position seven with 23 points.
“We are aware that Downs have not been scoring until the last match. The fact that they started to score is not going to do us any favours. We are capable when it comes to scoring and winning. We hope to do well,” said Mngqithi, who led Arrows to the 2009 MTN8 title.
Mosimane is sure to be encouraged by the fact that two of his strikers – Nyasha Mushekwi and Katlego Mphela managed to score against Maritzburg. The duo’s confidence could spell trouble for Arrows defence.
The game also saw young midfielder Jabulani Shongwe add his name on the scoresheet with a wonderful strike.
The creative midfielder, who turns 23 at the end of this month, says he and his teammates are keen to reproduce their form from Friday night. – Pretoria News
