Pretoria - Thabo Mosadi scored an equaliser in the fourth minute of additional time to hand the University of Pretoria a last-gasp 1-1 draw in a PSL encounter against Moroka Swallows at Tuks Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday night.

Siyabonga Nomvethe netted his fourth goal of the season to hand the Soweto outfit the advantage, but they had their hearts broken as the students hit back in the last play of the game.

AmaTuks had claimed a surprise 3-2 away victory when the teams last met in the Premiership in September.

The Birds started well and immediately put the hosts under pressure, dominating the early exchanges, which led to their opening strike just eight minutes into the clash, when Nomvethe grabbed a goal from inside the area.

He neatly placed the ball into the top right corner of Washington Arubi's goal, after receiving an accurate pass from Bafana Bafana midfielder Lerato Chabangu.

The home side recovered from their early setback and went in search of the equaliser, coming close through Aubrey Ngoma, who managed to beat his marker before Swallows goalkeeper Greg Etafia made a good save from close-range to deny the youngster.

Swallows started the second period much the same as they started the first, with Nomvethe coming close to doubling his tally a minute into the half, capitalising on a mix-up between the Tuks defenders.

Nomvethe dispatched his shot goalwards but failed to beat Arubi, who made a nervy stop to deny the striker his second of the night.

Swallows playmaker Giorgi Nergadze came close for the visitors on the hour mark, forcing a solid diving save from Arubi, after Nergadze unleashed a superb volleyed effort at goal, destined for the top right corner.

Chabangu kept up the pressure on Tuks, drilling a free kick on target with 15 minutes remaining, but Arubi, keeping his side in the game with some fine saves, punched away the thunderous effort.

Tuks had perhaps their best opportunity to draw level shortly after, when an accurate delivery into the Swallows area was flicked on by half-time replacement Mame Niang, before Buhle Mkhwanazi drove his effort at goal, with Etafia making a fine stop to keep his side in the lead.

The students were on the attack and had a further chance falling to Mosadi, but the second-half substitute flashed his shot across the goalmouth and wide to the right.

He kept his cool in injury time, though, slotting past Etafia, who made an initial save, but could not keep out Mosadi, who netted from close range. - Sapa
