JOHANNESBURG – Orlando Pirates have added another midfielder to their arsenal for the new season.

The Buccaneers announced on Tuesday that they have agreed a deal with Bloemfontein Celtic for the services of Musa Nyatama.

Nyatama, who previously played for Thanda Royal Zulu, Mamelodi Sundowns and Maritzburg United, is set to do a medical on Wednesday.

Celtic chief executive Khumbulani Khonco confirmed Nyatama’s transfer. “Yes, it is true that we have sold him to Pirates. We wish him all the best of luck. He served us very well,” Khonco said.

Pirates have already acquired the services of hard-tackling midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni from Chippa United. They have been busy in the transfer market, signing goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands from Mamelodi Sundowns and Nigerian striker Christian Obiozor.

The club also confirmed the return of Justice Chabalala, who was on loan at Chippa United.

Pirates are searching for their first trophy in three years. The last time they claimed a title was in 2014, when they lifted the Nedbank Cup in Durban.

Meanwhile, Platinum Stars confirmed on Tuesday that they have signed Bafana international Lehlogonolo Masalesa on a three-year deal.

The midfielder captained Bafana in the recent Cosafa Cup held in Rustenburg. The 25-year-old’s contract at Greek team AE Larissa came to an end last season.

Masalesa made his PSL debut at Dikwena in 2009, and then moved on to Wits and Orlando Pirates before going to Greece.

“We are very excited as a club to have landed his signature. It’s a big signing for us,” said Platinum Stars general manager Senzo Mazingiza.

“It was not an easy signing to do. It took a lot of convincing and lobbying. I am glad he is coming back home. He comes back with a lot of experience. I am sure he will do well for us.”
