New Orlando Pirates boss Muhsin Ertugral has begun his “clean-sweeping” at the Buccaneers, with two former Bafana Bafana players among a group of six players who were transfer-listed on Thursday.

Former Wits star Sifiso Myeni, as well as ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Lehlohonolo Majoro are the two high-profile names who are being let go by Pirates under the new Ertugral regime.

The Turkish coach replaced Eric Tinkler at the start of the off-season and has promised to reinvigorate Pirates to return them to their former glory after a trophyless 2015/16 season.

They ended in a disappointing seventh position in the Absa Premiership, and the closest that the Soweto giants got to silverware came in the Nedbank Cup, where they lost 3-2 in the final to SuperSport United.

Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has already announced the arrivals of Bradley Carnell as an assistant coach to Ertugral, as well as striker Ayanda Nkosi from Free State Stars.

And now the club announced on their website on Thursday that six players have been deemed surplus to requirements. “Following a meeting with management this week Orlandopiratesfc.com can confirm that the following players have been placed on the transfer list: Sifiso Myeni, Roger Majafa, Letsie Koapeng, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Felipe Ovono, Yassar Mugerwa.

“Club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza is due to meet more players on Friday to discuss their futures.”

Goalkeeper Felipe Ovono of Equatorial Guinea has also been offered a deal by a club in Saudi Arabia, and will be travelling to the Middle East to be assessed.

Meanwhile, Pirates won their first “match” under Ertugral when they beat North-West University 5-0 in a practice game on Wednesday in Potchefstroom, where they are holding a five-day training camp.

The club website states that Ertugral utilised two different sides in each half, with the goals scored by Luvuyo Memela, Thamsanqa Gabuza, Oupa Manyisa, Tendai Ndoro and Ntsikelelo Nyauza.

Pirates will play another practice game on Saturday in Potchefstroom before starting preparations for next weekend’s Carling Champion Cup against Kaizer Chiefs.
