Pitso, Teko win PSL awardsComment on this story
Johannesburg – Mamelodi Sundowns bagged both awards for the season's fourth quarter as Pitso Mosimane and Teko Modise were named Absa Premiership Coach and Player of Q4 for their efforts over the last five games.
Mosimane guided his team to five wins from as many games, claiming a full compliment of points en route to securing the top spot in the league and putting the Pretoria outfit in pole position to lift the Premiership trophy later this week.
“We are humble to be here, we are honoured,” Mosimane said after receiving the award in Johannesburg.
“It's because of the hard work, the perseverance of the players. If we do our work hard, we are bound to be in the position where we are.”
The 49-year-old has been the pick of the coaches this season, claiming a second Coach of the Quarter award, following his achievement earlier this year, when he was rewarded for his efforts during Q2.
“It's a good gesture, but we would like to have the big fish (league title),” Mosimane said.
“When I came over to Sundowns, the team were second-bottom on the log. My job was to make sure that I put out fires and that Sundowns should not get relegated.
“Last season was very tough. We got ambitious and we fought hard.”
Modise, meanwhile, has been in startling form since the new year and has been instrumental for the log-leaders, backing up his form on the pitch with an integral leadership role within Sundowns' ranks. He has assumed the captaincy duties on numerous occasions during their campaign.
“I was happy when I was told that I had won the award. It's been a while since Teko has won anything,” Modise said.
“It's about time that a Sundowns player won this award and I'm grateful and I hope that I can improve.” – Sapa
