Polokwane – Goals from Thapelo Tshilo and Siphesihle Nzimande helped Polokwane City claim a 2-0 win over Ajax Cape Town in their Absa Premiership encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
The victory was the first in the league for Polokwane City as they now lift themselves off the bottom of the table for the first time since the start of the season.
The away side were first to get in on the action as Lebogang Manyama’s fifth minute free-kick curled just wide of the post.
Manyama threatened moments later with another set-piece after Eleazar Rodgers was brought down near the box. The striker’s free-kick this time hit the target but Polokwane’s goalkeeper Modiri Marumo got a fist to it.
The heat looked like it was starting to get to Ajax and Polokwane managed to catch them on the break in the 40th minute which saw Thapelo Tshilo slide in to tap home the opening goal.
He was, however, replaced immediately afterwards for what appeared to be an injury-related change rather than a tactical one.
Having already replaced Michael Kwong for Nathan Paulse midway through the first half, Muhsin Ertugral opted to bring on Lance Davids for Rodgers at the start of the second half.
But tt just wasn’t Ajax Cape Town’s day as they ended up going 2-0 down when Siphesihle Nzimande found the back of the net in the 70th minute.
