Platinum Stars beat Polokwane City 2-1 to claim a first Absa Premiership win of the season at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Saturday.
Goals from the in-form Siphelele Mthembu and Robert Ng’ambi gave Dikwena the three points, before debutant Issa Sarr netted a late own goal to give City something on the afternoon.
Stars dominated from the start, with their click football creating numerous opportunities.
Veteran City goalkeeper Modiri Marumo was kept busy as shots rained down on his goal, but withstood all until a minute before halftime.
In the end it was a scrappy goal for the visitors to concede: a high ball into the box was headed on and Mthembu found himself in space in the box. He rifled the ball home from 12-yards off the post.
After Ng’ambi had hit the post early in the second half, he did get Stars’ second goal, latching onto a long ball and beating Marumo in a one-on-one contest.
There might have been more goals for the home side after that, but it was City who scored, Sarr unlucky as he turned the ball into his own net.
City have now lost all three of their league matches this season, while Stars have a win and two draws. – Backpage Media
