Johannesburg – Moroka Swallows notched up their second consecutive Premiership win with a 2-1 victory over AmaZulu in their match at the Dobsonville Stadium, on Wednesday.

Goals from Luvhengo Mungomeni in the 29th minute and Lerato Chabangu in the 64th minute clinched the encounter for Swallows, with Goodman Dlamini scoring for AmaZulu in the 61st minute.

The back to back win came after Dube Birds beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 last week.

The first half of the match played-out with little goal mouth action, with Mungomeni's header the only highlight.

In the centre of midfield the characteristically flowing game of the visitors was disrupted by the hard running Lantshane Phalane's no-nonsense marking.

AmaZulu marksman Bongani Ndulula was kept quiet for most of the first half. Teammate Philani Shange had the team's best goal scoring attempt half an hour into the game through a free-kick from range, but was wayward in his effort.

While AmaZulu were struggling to find their feet, Swallows had a number of good looks at goal. One such chance fell to winger Dikgang Mabalane whose powerful strike forced the opposition goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini into a spectacular save in the 57th minute.

Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa followed that attempt with his own header from a corner kick, which took one bounce in front of the goal mouth and bounced the crossbar.

AmaZulu's Nhlanhla Shabalala's enterprising counter-attacking play with fellow midfielder Ruzaigh Gamieldien kept the opposition defence on the back foot.

AmaZulu attempted to conjure a fight back but Swallows kept things tight in the middle of the park ensuring that the visitors did not play their usual running style on the flanks.

Mabalane made a surging run in the 78th minute, crossing for Tsietsi Mahoa, but the shot was over the target. – Sapa
