As Mamelodi Sundowns got their title defence back on track with a 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the pick of the weekend’s matches, youngster Percy Tau’s star continued to rise with a Man-of-the-Match winning performance.

Tau was influential in the creation of Sibusiso Vilakazi’s winning goal and was generally a nuisance for the Chiefs’ defence with his sprightly runs into spaces.

Winger Anthony Laffor had a storming game, his ability to create space for himself ensuring Sundowns always looked threatening whenever they went forward. It was a pity the Liberian seemed to have left his scoring boots at home for he wasted a litany of chances.

For Chiefs, Ramahlwe Mphahlele had a solid game both defensively and when he surged forward from which he scored the opener, one many will no doubt rule as somewhat fortunate.

There were some impressive showings elsewhere in the country with Maritzburg United’s Deolin Mekoa scoring at the death to ensure Ajax Cape Town remained winless while Tendai Ndoro again found the net for Pirates to keep his lead atop the scorers’ chart. The Buccaneers could actually have won by more had it not been for the splendid showing in goals for Stars by Thela Ngobeni who wears our number one jersey once again. Thabang Monare shone once more as BidVest Wits kept their lead on top of the 16-team table and Richard Matloga was highly impressive for Baroka against SuperSport United.
