Former Africa Cup of Nations-winning captain Neil Tovey guided Thanda Royal Zulu to a 1-0 win at Pretoria University Sunday and the chance of promotion to the PSL.

Nigeria-born striker Peter Nwadike headed the winner on 74 minutes and Thanda rose one place to third on the second-tier league table behind champions Pretoria University and Chippa United.

Thanda, Chippa and Santos, who finished second last above relegated Jomo Cosmos in the Premiership, play each other home and away between May 23 and June 23 and the team topping the table joins Pretoria University in the top flight.

Centre-back Tovey skippered South Africa to a 2-0 victory over Tunisia in the 1996 Cup of Nations final watched by a sell-out 80,000 Soweto crowd and he coached several Premiership clubs before joining Thanda.
