The drama surrounding Rivaldo Coetzee appears to be over – for the moment.

The Bafana Bafana defender resurfaced at Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday after going AWOL since the start of the pre-season.

It is believed that Coetzee wants an improved deal at the Urban Warriors that is a fair reflection of his status as a national team player, or alternatively, he wants to leave the club for a more lucrative deal elsewhere.

African champions Mamelodi Sundowns have been linked to Coetzee, while he has also received offers from overseas teams.

Ajax coach Stanley Menzo has expressed his unhappiness with the 20-year-old from Kakamas in the Northern Cape for not being in contact with the club and staying away from training at Ikamva in recent weeks.

On Tuesday, though, Coetzee contacted Ajax Cape Town chief executive Ari Efstathiou for a meeting to discuss matters, while also apologising for his absence.

“Rivaldo offered a heartfelt apology to the club, the staff, coaches, teammates and to our fans, one which we have accepted,” Efstathiou said on the club website.

“We are happy that he has taken responsibility for his actions in a mature manner, and accepted any decision made by the DC regarding his absence from training since the start of pre-season (3 July 2017).”
