Johannesburg - A goal in each half was enough to see Wits cruise to a 2-0 victory over Moroka Swallows in their Premiership match at Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday.

Wits scored the opener in the 43rd minute when Papy Faty found the back of the net.

After the interval Swallows pressed for an equaliser and took control of the game. The home side were content to sit back and defend and the visitors often looked like equalising.

Wits, however, capitalised on some poor defending with six minutes remaining in the game and sealed victory when Ofentse Nato scored the second for the home side.

The match ended controversially when substitute Ebrahim Seedat was given a red card for remarks directed at the referee.

The win puts Wits up to 15 points after nine games, while Swallows remain on 13 points.

Earlier, Litsie Koapeng went close for the home side in the third minute. Koapeng ran into the box and rounded Swallows keeper Greg Etafia, but his shot was cleared off the line by a Birds defender.

Swallows also came close in the seventh minute through Bennett Chenene.

Chenene found the ball in space down the left, and made his way into the box unmarked and, still unhindered, could not find the target with his attempt.

In the 19th minute after some good Wits interplay, Tinashe Nengomashe ran into the area, leaving a Swallows defender in his wake, but his shot was lofted way into the stands.

Four minutes later, Lerato Chabangu stepped up to take a free-kick in a dangerous position on the right hand side from 30m out. His shot though sailed over the crossbar.

Kadi had a decent chance on goal in the 31st minute, but from inside the area directed his shot over the target.

The best chance of the half for Swallows fell to Chabangu in the 33rd minute. Steven Hoffman pulled off a great reaction save after Chabangu and Katlego Mashego mesmerised the Wits defence.

Three minutes later, Wits found the back of the net through Koapeng, but his effort was ruled offside.

In the 40th minute, a curling Chabangu corner found Ashraf Hendricks in the box. His unchallenged header, however, was wide.

After a period of dominance, Wits were rewarded for their good play.

In the 43rd minute Kadi forced Etafia into a good save and Papy Faty was on-hand to bury the rebound to make it 1-0 to The Students.

In the 76th minute, Chabangu took another free kick just outside the box. He opted not to go for goal, but instead passed the ball along the ground to Mashego, but his shot went right of the goal.

Wits doubled their lead in the 84th minute through Ofentse Nato. Sibusiso Vilakazi was the provider as he opened up the visitors' defence with a bustling run into the box, drawing three defenders.

Vilakazi's cross found Nato unmarked on the right in the box and he made no mistake as he made it 2-0 to Wits. - Sapa
