The SA Football Association (Safa) says it has postponed its annual general meeting, as well as a special general meeting scheduled for this weekend.

Safa said in a statement on Sunday it had delayed the SGM to September 10.

“This was done in order to allow broader consultation with the membership on the matters pertaining to the proposed constitutional amendments,” Safa said.

“The SGM was originally scheduled as part of this weekend's activities which included the Football Indaba.”

The football body said the country's bid to host the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), to be decided at a Confederation of African Football (Caf) meeting on September 28, had forced them to push back the AGM date.

“The reason is to allow Safa to be fully represented and garner support at the Caf executive meeting that will be held in Cairo, Egypt,” Safa said.

“This is where the decision to award the rights to the 2013

Afcon host nation will be taken, considering the unrest taking place in Libya, who are the current scheduled hosts.”

Safa received a backlash from Caf after prematurely announcing on its website this week that it had signed an agreement to swap hosting rights with the Libyan football federation.

The continental body said the agreement needed to be ratified.
