Durban - Safa Technical Director Neil Tovey, who was discharged from a Durban hospital on Sunday, exactly a week after suffering a heart attack, said he would like to thank all South Africans for their prayers and standing by him during the past testing days.

Tovey is now recuperating at home having spent seven days in hospital. “I am now home but it will take time to fully recover as my major organs; the lungs, kidneys and heart collapsed. I will take it step by step and do regular checks-ups,” said Tovey who added he was touched by the outpouring messages by South Africans from all walks of life.

“I would like to thank everybody, the South African public, my family and the hospital staff; I feel touched and humbled,” said Tovey who watched highlights of Sunday night's CAF Champions League final between Zamalek of Egypt and Mamelodi Sundowns at home.

“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Sundowns for becoming champions of Africa. They lifted the spirits of all South Africans. Job well done and once again congrats,” added Tovey.
