Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.
London – Cristiano Ronaldo has been advised by his agent Jorge Mendes to stay at Real Madrid for another season.
Ronaldo has two years left on his contract at the Bernabeu after this season and is considering leaving Spain, with French side Paris Saint-Germain and former club Manchester United interested.
But the 28-year-old has been told by friend and adviser Mendes that he would be best served staying for another year and then taking his pick of clubs across Europe.
Much will depend on whether coach Jose Mourinho, with whom Ronaldo has a good relationship, stays at Real beyond this season.
Mourinho is also a PSG target, but is known to prefer a move to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford in the long term.
Meanwhile, United defender Rio Ferdinand will not be investigated by the FA after tangling with Chelsea’s Fernando Torres on Sunday. Ferdinand appeared to push Torres off the ball during the 2-2 draw in the FA Cup but last night the governing body indicated that they would take no action.
However, Wilfried Zaha has been ticked off by Manchester United after being charged by the FA for his obscene gesture towards Leeds fans. The Crystal Palace winger was photographed directing a one- fingered salute at visiting fans during Saturday’s 2-2 draw.
In addition to his charge of improper conduct, the forward has been warned by Old Trafford chiefs. Zaha completed a dream transfer to United in January, but is staying at Selhurst Park on loan until the end of the season.
Soon after sealing his move Zaha was reminded of his responsibilities as a United employee.
And he has been told that Saturday’s behaviour, despite receiving plenty of abuse from Leeds fans, would not be tolerated at Old Trafford.
Zaha, 21, took to Twitter after pictures of the incident emerged, saying: “It was very unprofessional of me.” United chiefs know such behaviour would cause major controversy at the club.
He has until 4pm on Saturday to respond to the charge and will face a ban and fine if found guilty.
Palace boss Ian Holloway has also been charged with improper conduct for his behaviour towards officials after Saturday’s draw. – Daily Mail
