Newcastle, England – Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne has been told he could face a jail sentence after admitted to drink-driving.
The 43-year-old Gascoigne pleaded guilty at a hearing at Newcastle Magistrates' Court to driving on October 8 while more than four times the legal alcohol limit.
District Judge Stephen Erl says all options “up to and including a custodial sentence” were open. Erl said on Wednesday that Gascoigne will be sentenced on November 11.
The 1990 World Cup star has been plagued by alcohol and mental-health problems since quitting the game in 2005. Gascoigne - nicknamed “Gazza” - was twice detained for mental health problems in 2008 and was left in a serious condition after a car accident in June.– Sapa-AP
