Rome - AC Milan are set to appoint their former striker Filippo Inzaghi as coach to replace Clarence Seedorf, local media reported Thursday.

Inzaghi, 40, this week met club owner Silvio Berlusconi and vice president Adriano Galliani, who are believed to have offered him the job of his former team-mate.

Dutchman Seedorf, 38, took over the struggling Devils from Massimiliano Allegri at mid-season, but finished eighth in the Serie A and failed to qualify for the continental tournaments. Inzaghi quit playing in 2012 after 11 seasons with the Rossoneri and stayed on at the club as coach of the youth team.

He and Seedorf helped Milan lift two Serie A and two Champions League titles. “(Inzaghi) has extraordinary enthusiasm and will to work; the right characteristics to coach Milan,” Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said this week.

Ancelotti, 54, last Saturday lifted his third Champions League as coach after the two won at Milan with Inzaghi and Seedorf in his line-up. Ancelotti also won two national and two European titles as player with the Devils.
