London – Arjen Robben will be a shock casualty of the new Pep Guardiola era at Bayern Munich, despite starring in the 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals this week.

The 29-year-old winger, who cost £24million when he left Chelsea for Real Madrid in the summer of 2007, is up for sale as former Barcelona coach Guardiola begins to stamp his mark on Bayern.

The Spaniard singled out Robben for the exit after deciding he was too limited in his attacking forays.

Robben recently expressed his displeasure at being frequently left out of the Bayern starting line-up by departing coach Jupp Heynckes.

“It is disappointing to find myself on the bench so often,” he said.

Mario Gomez is the other high-profile name on Bayern’s for-sale list, with Chelsea a possible destination for the 27-year-old if, as expected, Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge in the summer. Mourinho wants a physical target man, and £20m-rated Gomez fits the bill. – Daily Mail
