Madrid – Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Sunday that Angel di Maria was poised to leave the European champions, but that Sami Khedira was likely to stay.

“Di Maria has not trained again today. It is still not official, but he is about to be transferred. I give him my thanks for what he has done for this club.

“He has done a fantastic job for the club. This is his decision. The club has done all it can to get him to stay. I wish him luck.”

The Argentine winger is reportedly close to signing for Manchester United.

Regarding Khedira, who was reportedly also poised to leave Real, Ancelotti said: “He is staying, he is happy here. He is very important for the team.”

Khedira, who missed Friday’s Super Cup defeat against Atletico, the same as Di Maria, trained with the Real squad on Sunday.

Ancelotti denied that the departure of Di Maria would lead to Real signing another midfielder.

“We have the midfield well covered, what with Khedira and all the others,” he said.

The Italian coach refused to reveal who would be his goalkeeper in Monday’s league debut at home to Cordoba.

However, he did say that Cristiano Ronaldo “will play tomorrow, he has no problems now” after recent muscle strains.

Ancelotti said he was not worried about his team’s poor recent scoring record (only six goals in seven games).

“The team is fine, with a solid defence and a quick attack. We will not have any problems scoring, the goals will soon come,” he said.

“We will do better in the league this season (last year Real finished third). It is a difficult league, with strong teams, but we are very hopeful.” – Sapa-dpa
