MILAN, Italy – Roma have advised buyers to up their price if they are to prise coveted Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah from the club, but put the brakes on German defender Antonio Rudiger leaving the Serie A runners-up.

A former Chelsea reject who has become one of Roma's most important players, Salah has been the subject of an approach by Liverpool.

But the Italians' new sporting director Monchi, whose recruitment policies with Sevilla helped the La Liga side become one of the most potent teams in Europe, said Roma won't let the pacy front man go easily.

"It's true there is interest in Salah from an English club, there is an offer, but we set the price and we decide if we sell at that price," Monchi told media during the official unveiling of new coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

"There have been no negotiations about Rudiger, and there is no chance he will leave. Zero."

Pressed further on the club's transfer policy, Monchi affirmed: "Roma is not a supermarket. Our aim is to get better than last season."

Roma finished runners-up for a remarkable ninth time last season since they won their last Scudetto in 2001.

Monchi added: "We need to keep together the best possible squad. There is no team in the world game that does not sell at least one player.

"As I said, the problem is not to sell, the problem is to buy badly: if one leaves he will have to be replaced properly."
