Johannesburg – Kevin Anderson has rocketed back up the men's world tennis rankings after reaching the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, in California, last week.
Anderson moved eight placings up the latest ATP ratings list, released on Monday, to settle in 29th position.
The SA men's number one, returning from an elbow injury, had slipped down the global rankings after failing to defend his Delray Beach title earlier this month.
Anderson, however, defeated world number four David Ferrer in the second round, and former world number six Gilles Simon in the fourth round, for an impressive performance at Indian Wells.
He was eventually eliminated by sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals.
Chanelle Scheepers, the SA women's number one, who has not competed this month, dropped one place to 61st in the latest WTA rankings. – Sapa
