Johannesburg – Top South African player Kevin Anderson has been presented with a foreboding draw for the star-studded BNP Paribas Open which gets underway at Indian Wells, in California, on Thursday.
Anderson, tip-toeing his way back into competitive tennis after undergoing elbow surgery following the Australian Open, slumped from 29th in the ATP world rankings to 37th after failing to retain his Delray Beach title in his comeback event last week.
Set to continue his return after an absence of a month from tournament action, he did not receive one of the 32 seeding positions at Indian Wells.
The SA men's number one will face world number four David Ferrer in the second round in California if he beats Victor Henesco in the opening round – and regaining lost ground from his injury might be hampered further by the diminutive, all-action player. – Sapa
