South African tennis player Kevin Anderson lost in the third round of the French Open in five sets 4-6 6-3 7-6 4-6 4-6 to Czech Tomas Berdych at Roland Garros on Friday.

Anderson was 2-1 up in sets heading into the fourth, before Berdych came back to reel in the lanky South African number one.

The big-serving Anderson served more than double the number of aces of his opponent, with 22 in the encounter.

Anderson also boasted fewer unforced errors than Berdych, with 34 to 36, but he failed in the crucial points. – Sapa
