London - South Africa's leading doubles player, Raven Klaasen, is into the quarterfinals of the All-England tennis tournament in Wimbledon, London.

The recent winner of the doubles title at the Gerry Weber Open in Germany, Klaasen continued his growing partnership with American Rajeev Ram.

Seeded 11th for the tournament, they beat the fifth seeded Croatian/Brazilian combination of Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in three sets. The final score in the 2hr 17min game was 7-6 (3) 7-6 (5) 6-3. The SA/US combination lost the aces battle 2-4 but this was negated by the fact that their opponents sent down seven double faults to their four.

They'll now come up against either 14th seeds Radek Stepanek and Nenad Zimonjic of Czech Republic and Serbia respectively or tournament second seeds and brothers, Bob and Mike Bryan of the US. - African News Agency (ANA)
