Reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic has said she was looking to improve her Grand Slam performances while keeping an eye on the world number one spot for 2015.

“Next year I have some clear goals in my mind,” the 24-year-old left-handed world number four wrote in her official blog.

“I want to have better results at the Grand Slams and of course one day I want to be number one in the world.”

“I have been close already, but I really hope that day will come,” she added.

Kvitova notched up her second title win at Wimbledon this year, but she only made it to the third round at the French and US Opens and lost in the first round of the Australian Open.

“Wimbledon was the highlight of the year, I won my second Grand Slam and to have two Wimbledon trophies in my parents' house means absolutely everything to me,” said Kvitova, who also won the tournament in 2011.

In November, Kvitova led the Czech Republic to a third Fed Cup trophy in four years after beating Germany's Angelique Kerber in the finals in Prague in “a great battle and the perfect match to end the season on a high.”

Kvitova has started training for next season with a new fitness coach, Alex Stober, whom she inherited from Li Na after the Chinese star had ended her career earlier this year.

“He has a lot of experience and he knows what to do, he arrived with a very specific plan to make me stronger and faster on court,” Kvitova said.

“The exercises we are doing are very focused on tennis and on my game specifically so that I can play tennis the 'Petra' way,” she added.– AFP
