Delray Beach, United States – Sixth-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 first-round victory over American Sam Querrey Monday on the opening day of the ATP Delray Beach Open.

Lopez, who was ousted in the second round of the indoor tournament in Memphis last week, next faces France's Adrian Mannarino, who defeated US wild card Jack Sock 6-4, 6-2 in the only other main draw match of the day.

Sock had beaten Mannarino in their two prior ATP meetings this season, including a win in Memphis.

But on Monday, Sock converted just one of his eight break chances, while Mannarino broke the American four times en route to the victory.

The tournament's top players swing into action on Tuesday, led by top-seeded German Tommy Haas and second-seeded American John Isner.

Third-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan, fresh from his successful title defense in Memphis, and fourth-seeded South African Kevin Anderson are also slated to play first-round matches on Tuesday, as is eighth-seeded Australian Lleyton Hewitt.

Hewitt, who opened the season with his 29th career title in Brisbane, comes into Delray Beach with 597 career match wins and is bidding to join Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as the only active ATP players to win at least 600 matches. – Sapa-AFP
