Berlin – Serena Williams commands the women’s tennis standings after a sixth Wimbledon title, leading the way in the latest WTA list issued Monday with more than twice as many points as number two Maria Sharapova.
Williams secured her 21st grand slam title on Saturday over Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, who was awarded with a first career top 10 placing, ninth in a big rise from 20, after her best showing at the majors.
Williams has 13 161 points, with her semi-final victim Sharapova far behind on 6 490 but rising from fourth to second. Simona Halep, who went out early, remains third on 5 151.
The 2014 champion Petra Kvitova dropped from second to fifth, French Open finalist Lucie Safarova fell from six to eight while
semi-finalist Agnieszka Radwanska rose from 13 to seventh in other changes.
