Berlin – Britain's Andy Murray moved to second behind Novak Djokovic on the ATP men's tennis rankings after reaching the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters.

Roger Federer, who went out in the third round, slipped to third on 7,760 points, with Murray on 8,750 and Djokovic on 12,730 in the rankings released Monday.

Madrid winner Rafael Nadal has stayed fifth on 6,895, just behind Spanish compatriot David Ferrer (6,920), whom he beat in the quarter-finals.

Losing Madrid finalist Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland moved up five places to 10th.
