Paris – Freshly crowned French Open champion Maria Sharapova returned to the top of the women's rankings for the first time in four years in the latest list Monday and beaten finalist Sara Errani stormed into the top 10.
Sharapova, 25, completed her set of career Grand Slam titles in straight sets against Errani on Saturday and the Russian tops the rankings for the fifth time in her career four years after her last stint there from May 19 to June 8, 2008.
Sharapova has 9,490 points as she dethroned Belarussian Victoria Azarenka (8,800), with Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska third (72,30). Italy's Errani shot from 24 to 10 by virtue of her best showing at the majors.
