Wickmayer reaches Gastein quarters

BAD GASTEIN, Austria – Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium defeated last year's finalist Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the second round of the Gastein Ladies on Thursday.

The second-seeded Wickmayer will next face Austria's Yvonne Meusburger, who won against Bulgaria's Dia Evtimova 6-2, 6-3.

The third-seeded Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan beat Sarah Gronert of Germany 6-2, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal against the 190th-ranked Chichi Scholl of the United States, who defeated sixth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-3, 6-4.

The seventh-seeded Alize Cornet of France and eight-seeded Johanna Larsson of Sweden also advanced to the quarterfinals.

Cornet defeated Sacha Jones of Australia 6-3, 6-2 and will next play Estrella Cabeza Candela of Spain, who beat Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp 6-4, 6-3.

Hogenkamp eliminated top-seeded Julia Goerges in the opening round.

Larsson beat Jill Craybas of the United States 6-2, 6-3 and next takes on Mandy Minella of Luxembourg, who downed fourth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. – Sapa-AP
