Rotterdam – Defender Jerry Akaminko is out of Ghana’s final World Cup squad after being injured in a tune-up game against the Netherlands.

Turkey-based Akaminko, Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp and striker David Accam were cut from the final group named by coach Kwesi Appiah on Sunday.

Captain Asamoah Gyan and midfielder Sulley Muntari were included to play at their third World Cup. Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince Boateng also made the 23-man squad.

Akaminko hurt his ankle in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to 2010 World Cup finalist the Netherlands in Rotterdam and will be sidelined for three months.

The Ghana squad now travels to the US for a final friendly against South Korea. Ghana, a quarterfinalist four years ago, plays the US, Germany and Portugal in Group G at the World Cup. – Sapa-AP
