Former Cameroonian international Roger Feutmba, in an exclusive letter to Football411, discusses the Indomitable Lions’ early exit and questions whether Samuel Eto’o should continue.

I’m very disappointed with Cameroon after they were knocked out of the World Cup after just two matches. Those who are in charge of our football must do something about this and let start by rebuilding this team. The fact is Cameroon missed the last two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and that is a clear indication that something is wrong.

I think it is time for players like Eto’o to retire from international football. He has given a lot to the national team, even though some people don’t see it that way. He won two Afcon cups and he was part of the team that won the Olympics in 2000 so he played his part.

But these past years have not been good with him as the captain of the team.

I think it was a mistake in the first place that Eto’o went to the World Cup. He’s surrounded by players who are not his generation and he was supposed to be the leader and guide these young boys but that’s not what he has been doing.

Since he took over as captain, we have had problems. He’s done too much talking and so he was not focused.

For me, it is not just about the players. The bonus issue, for example, was there when I played for the national team but the only thing is we had leaders at the time. So the people in charge must not wait for the last minute to sort it out with the players.

There is a lot to be done, but it is time to rebuild the team. - Teamtalk Media
