Johannesburg - Idols SA Season 11 will go down in history as a season of firsts, possibly including that a black woman took the title for the first time.

After many weeks of hard work and record-breaking votes of more than 70 million, the long wait will be over tonight as spirited Mmatema Moremi from Limpopo goes up against Mpumalanga’s Karabo Mogane at Carnival City in Joburg.

The odds are in favour of Moremi being crowned the 2015 South African Idol after the two have taken each other on week after week.

And what a show it promises to be tonight! For the first time, the final will be broadcast in 5.1 surround sound. The Idols SA Top 10 will be reunited again on the Carnival City stage for a group performance of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song and the top two finalists will be performing Beyoncé’s I Was Here as a duet, backed by the others.

Mogane and Moremi will each perform a duet with special guest stars: the latter will be singing Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel’s Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing with MiCasa’s J Mogane and Judith Sephuma will join forces on George Michael and Aretha Franklin’s I Knew You Were Waiting.

There will be more guest appearances by some of South Africa’s top artists, and of course the winning contestant will perform their new single, both of which are hits.

Their showdown tonight comes a week after the two performed the songs, Moremi’s Because of You and Mogane’s Ding Dong, for the first time before an audience. They elicited many cheers at the State Theatre in Pretoria last weekend

Moremi’s new single has since gone straight to the top of the iTunes charts in Mzansi, taking the No 2 spot, while superstar Adele’s Hello remains at No 1. Ding Dong following closely at No 3.

The two finalists were whisked off to Cape Town and Durban to meet their fans and persuade them to turn their dream of becoming South Africa’s next Idol into reality.

Season 11 will also be remembered as the season where top choreographer and TV personality Somizi Mhlongo became a judge and won the hearts of millions.
