Bok rugby star Handré Pollard is emulating the movie stars of old and the rock stars of the modern era.

No, the good-looking Bok flyhalf is not setting his heart on the silver screen but just as the legendary Betty Grable had her legs insured for $1 million back in 1943, so the baby-faced assassin is doing the same with his most valuable asset.

That’s right, the man with the golden boot has insured his kicking foot to the tune of R2 million through Bidvest Insurance.

“With rugby’s biggest competition on the go, one could say it’s a matter of national importance,” quips Phil Donnelly, sales and marketing director at Bidvest Insurance.

“Handrè is a key member of the national team and we want to ensure that we’re getting behind our boys over the next eight weeks and literally putting our money where our mouth is, in insurance.”

To prove their lack of bias, Bidvest Insurance has also sponsored the motor and household insurances of Pollard’s rival for the flyhalf berth, Pat Lambie.

To encourage fans to get behind South Africa in supporting the Springboks, Bidvest Insurance has launched a competition on its Twitter and Facebook pages. Members of the public can submit their most unusual and unique items that they think should be insured.

By tweeting @BidvestInsures with the hashtag #WhatWouldYouInsure, or sharing the ideas on the brand’s Facebook page, entrants stand the chance to win a signed jersey from Pollard.

They can also win two season tickets to their favourite South African rugby stadium for the 2016 season. – WEEKEND ARGUS
