Durban - DJ and music producer Oskido arrived in Durban to play at a “private gig” - so he thought.
But he was pleasantly surprised with a birthday party instead.
His friends in the entertainment industry and the KwaDukuza ANC branch threw him a surprise party at the Hampshire Hotel in Ballito, north of Durban.
DJ Oskido, who is from Joburg, has been assisting artists in the area. He also owns a holiday house in Zinkwazi.
“Yo guys, is this really for me? Oh no, I don’t believe this,” he said, his eyes filled with tears.
The party was all the more special for him because it was his first surprise party.
“I wish my children were here to witness the love I have received from you. I have never been surprised with a birthday party in my entire life.”
DJ Oskido told the Sunday Tribune that the party left him with great memories.
“I have had birthday parties before, but they were not a surprise and were held in clubs. It’s not often that people thank you for the contribution you have made while you are still alive. I came here thinking I had a private gig. No one tipped me off about this party. It was a true surprise,” he said.
Oskido’s birthday is November 23, but he appreciated the early celebration nonetheless. He did not reveal his age, but said, “I am a dinosaur”.
KwaDukuza Municipality mayor, Ricardo Mthembu, said the party was a token of appreciation for the significant social development role Oskido had played in uplifting the KwaDukuza region.
