Johannesburg - The most prestigious fashion event in Mzansi rolls out yet again from Saturday evening and is gearing up to be a season like no other.

Fashion forward designers are set to showcase their latest Spring/Summer creations for 2017 on the ramp in Hyde Park Corner's The Park.

The week long event that has presented a fashion stage for more than 20 years, is not just about fashion for many designers but also encapsulate a business opportunity. One such designer who echos these words is Hangwani Nengovhela, founder of Rubicon Clothing.

“For Rubicom right now, our collection inspiration stems from the journey. I feel like i have been offering people a mixture of things in terms of the brand itself. I’ve gone through the whole business cycle and now we will give a high level fashion taste to clients to see and enjoy," says Nengovhela.

Rubicon, initiated back in 2002 in Limpopo before branching into Johannesburg, is a clothing brand that is divided into three sections, Premium line which is Rubicon Clothing, Rubicon Women which is ready to wear and Ruth by Rubicon, an afrocentric line; all which Nengovhela says followers will get a taste of.

The brand's style is described as very chic and afrocentric, with the tagline Timeless Classic Designs to their name, Nengovhela says that what she will present is not highly influenced by fashion or trends that come and go.

"I am one that doesn't go for contemporary designs but brings forward something that is timeless, something that will always be fresh," that being something to look forward to on the ramp.

The first show on Tuesday, 28 March 2017 will be hosted by Woolworths – Style by SA (a Woolworths capsule collection by South African designers) featuring eight "Top, Designers To Be" on the Runway.

The week will feature 67 designers in total showcasing ladies and men's wear, plus exciting debut outfits on the ramp.

The designer, who loves fashion wholeheartedly says that what she has to offer the public is beyond what is seen with the eye right now.

"I don't want Rubicon Clothing to be your stereotype South African brand. I really need to sell and branching out into the US, Europe and in other African countries. To be commercial and a brand to be reckoned with," she says.
