CAPRICORN FM turns five this year. Limpopo’s first and only commercial radio station plans to celebrate in style.
The station will throw a party for its fans and music lovers tomorrow at the Polokwane Cricket Club. Its annual concert is officially known as the Limpopo Music Festival.
This year’s line-up includes the godfather of Kwaito music, Mdu Masilela. The village pope Tsepo Tshola, Stimela and the sensational Zakes Bantwini, will share the stage.
Recipients of three Sama awards, Mi Casa, will keep them dancing.
Hip-hop crew Teargas and HHP, are also included, as are singers Lira and Zonke. Simphiwe Mdlalose chief executive and station manager said the event was to thank fans for their continued support.
“We are the fifth-largest commercial radio station in the country,” said Mdlalose.
Capricorn FM made history on November 26, 2007, when it went on air.
The hit Hita Famba Moyeni by the late disco king Paul Ndlovu, was the first the station played on air.
Mdlalose has fond memories of the journey since then. He said the station had defied the odds when it attracted 1.5 million listeners within 10 months of its launch.
Tickets are for sale at Computicket for R120 each.
VIP tickets are also available at 015 590 0900.
