President Jacob Zuma

It is hard to think of a more patriotic and positive person than Vuyo. He was always cheerful and the whole nation will miss his smile and encouraging words.

With a gentle and genteel style, perfectly suited to morning TV and radio, his was for many the first and most trusted analysis of the daily news.

Limpopo ANC Youth League

The world and the nation (have been) deprived of an open-minded personality.

DA spokesman Mmusi Maimane

He was such a warm and respectful person – always fair – always asking the questions in a way that gave you a chance to state your side. He personified what it meant to be a warm, engaging and tolerant South African.

He served the community as a zealous news hound who stood for the truth in public interest and remained fiercely objective at all times. He was never afraid to ask difficult questions.

As we remember him, it is one of his favourite phrases that today rings true – “mintiro ya bula bula” (your work [creating dialogue over many years] speaks for you).

His catch phrases, such as “ligamenxe les’khombisa” (it’s 7 o’clock!”, or “Umphongolo we (a barrel of) Brent crude oil” will be solely missed.

His signature sign-off ‘Sharp, Sharp!’ came too soon.
